Ahhh. The politically correct answer to why society is screwed. They like using this for the shidduch situation too. The feel good answer. "We really care for you, and are trying to help you, but as you see, it's an impossible situation and was inevitably going to come to this, so there's not much we can do." Saves a lot of painful soul searching. Just blame it on the numbers.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

You are missing the point.

It is about numbers but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to do about it.
Schools can be expanded and more can be opened etc

Just don't blame the whole issue on an elitist attitude. If the problem is not correctly diagnosed then we can never solve it.

Are there a lack of new schools being opened, or are parents reluctant to send there instead of the brand name places?

Both, though the real shortage is with girls high schools

Takes a lot of infrastructure to start one. Mesivtos are much easier to start in a shul basement with five staff members.

That's an identity and burnout crisis. Much harder to fundraise for girls schools, too.

Don't distort the real meaning. We are talking priorities, and what one can do for others sometimes precedes what he does for himself.

This.
Rechnitz is crying about the symptoms and not the illness.

So your saying I should give away my child's slot to my neighbor?

So be it.

Harav shteinman shlita once asked a well known rosh mosod how much of his motivation is לשם שמים, and he admitted that he was about 30% שלא לשמה..
Harav  Shteinman answered it's a pity you aren't 100% שלא לשמה, then you would be doing an even better job!

Ouch?? its the truth. But its not all bad. Regardless of the reason they opened they still opened a school at the end of the day and that helps.
