I know rice helps from my own experience,  can anyone explain me why it really helps?  Is a it a vacuum?

Dud. Turned on for a minute. Then screen started flashing. I saw from my bar that all my apps synced up, so it seems it works but screen is fried

Did you try charging it? Don't. Don't give up hope yet. My phone did the same leave it in rice for another couple days and don't touch it.
