Poll: what Identity Monitoring Service do you have
« on: February 02, 2016, 08:23:53 PM »
I have a friend that was a victim of identity theft, and let me tell you it was no fun, (it's possible that because he is a well to do guy the thief picked on him). to make a long story short, they new every little detail about his life including cell phone numbers/email addresses etc. they applied for new credit cards and put the mailing address to a hotel in NJ which they had a reservation under his name, if he wouldn't catch the theft right away, the damage would of probably been irreparable.
Of course we all say it will never happen to me, and we are stingy to have a decent credit monitoring, i myself have Credit Karama, but for all i know they are a bunch of crooks (it's free after all) and they go on and sell my information to the highest bidder. Of course back in the day when CITI had a credit monitoring service for 4.95  that was awesome, my question is what do you folks out there do? if you share my concerns what credit monitoring service do you have? and if you think i'm over reacting why are you not concerned.

credit karma is a joke all they do is try to push you advertisements.

for starters, the #1 service that this website you linked to recommends is one of the shadiest of all and has been sued many times for just that

I wouldn't say it's the shadiest company around...it happens to be the biggest company in the market ( i personally use TrustedID ). However, the link was only posted to show the companies that are available for anti theft protection...Let each person do his/her own research.

What's wrong with pushing ads if you still do everything else right. Got to make money somehow. No need to pay lifelock $200 a year for things that can be had for free

So a friend of mine also had his identity stolen. What's the steps he needs to take?

Costco offers "Complete ID"  at a discount for members. Anyone have experience with this company? Any other recommendations?
Surprisingly, I see very little about this topic on DDF. I would think DDFers would need/want this protection. Thanks.

Also, anyone want to share their experience with Lifelock? Is it worth it?

Discover's new credit monitoring is awesome. I also have Credit Journey from Capital One and Chase, and credit monitoring from Barclays, as well as a Credit Karma account. They're all quite amazing. I'd be very surprised if someone would be able to steal the identity of any active member of this forum without them finding out about it fairly quickly, bli ayin hora. No?
