It's not the only downside to NJ. I think barclays is the exception. Thanks to Dan and this site, I still managed to get 900K between my wife and myself over 11 months.

Gary reports that he's gotten confirmation that one can also apply for the business card and receive the promo even if you got the personal.
But you'll need a second mileage account to show.

Didn't realize it was even a question. The website was very clear that they both work for the 100k.

Agreed. I took the plunge once, now I need to decide again if an inquiry is worth $360...

Had I known this I'd apply for both Ventures @ the same time, higher likelihood for approval.

I did both and got both. Submitted the same mileage account, but it said it was accepted.
Assuming I got 6 inquiries though.

My wife was rejected but I just did the consumer card for her, so just 3 inquiries down the drain.

Question to the wise men here:

There's been talk long ago about freezing 1 out of the three credit reports if you have too many inquires on them, and the card you want to apply for usually pulls from that credit report. The result is supposed to be that the inquiring bank will be forced to look at one of the other two credit reports (which have less inquires) and thus increase the chance of approval. I don't know if this ever worked.

The question relating to this Venture card discussion is, assuming you have good credit and want to save yourself from 3 hard pulls in vain, you can freeze two out of the three reports for the duration of the Venture card pull. Will Cap One still approve you based on the 1 report you let them pull from? Anyone try this or wanna try it?

I just followed the link on their site. I think I used my EIN to apply.

In OH though the issuers are pretty split from where they pull from.

We don't even know what they consider important, or how you score by whatever measures they use. I'd say you have a fair chance even without instant approval.
