There have been several reports here about it being done. I haven't done it yet, but I'll be attempting in a week or two. Plan on calling the Diamond line directly – hopefully those agents are more knowledgable.

Here are the T&Cs.

WHAT IS THE 5TH NIGHT FREE BENEFIT ON REWARD STAYS? Silver, Gold and Diamond elite members will receive every 5th night free on Standard Room Reward stays of 5 nights or more (up to 4 free nights on a stay of 20 consecutive nights). The free night is calculated based on the average nightly value of the stay. This is calculated by dividing the total point cost of all nights by the number of nights in the stay. This benefit does not apply to paid stays, Points & Money Rewards, Premium Room Rewards, Room Upgrade Rewards, reward certificate stays or to any stays booked outside of Hilton Worldwide channels such as Hilton Reservations & Customer Care or HHonors.com, and does not apply when other promotions apply

So it's not about finding a knowledgeable rep, rather you wanna find a not so knowledgeable rep who will break the official rule for you. People say they have done it and it is possible, but that is NOT the official rule.
