Not if he can get rid of them before the change.

But losing the ability to cancel the award stays (b/c then you lose the value) hurts a lot.

I doubt he can get rid of 900k points before the change and even if he does- the bookings will be speculative...either case...this sucks...

An opposing opinion.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilton-hhonors/1440317-even-recent-changes-hhonors-still-best-bargain-out-there.html

This is a ridiculous argument!!! Who amasses points with actual dollars spent at hotels!!!! This was obviously written by someone on Hiltons payroll.

Use this tool for seasonal costs.
http://hhonorspointssearchtool.com/

Just put onto hold the Bali Conrad for 5 nights for 140k using GLON.
After this change, it would be 240k after the 5th night free.

You'd just be an AU.

However, with a place like MLE, you can't just say the primary is gonna "show up later..." if ya know what I mean..

I'm going to unload today 150k points.
I'll book random dates for local properties and try to make use of them at that time (spring/summer season) or negotiate with the hotel management to change dates that fit my needs.

So here it goes:
Conrad New York is the first winner for one night. (50k)

Now, not sure about the others.
Thinking about The Millennium Hilton and the New York Waldorf Astoria.
Good choice or any other suggestion?

I stayed in all three. Conrad is definitely a good choice. But you can usually get a good deal on weekends or any other off season. It's an 8-10 min walk to kosher food or a subway but you can get a great view of the hudson river (some rooms)

Stay away from the WA (seems to have an unresolved bed bug problem.)  And the millennium hilton is nice but not worth the 50k points (even now) imho.

right- that;s what I wanted to confirm. You sure there is no way to just gift a stay like Hyatt where we can just use points to book nights for other people...

Going to burn some Hilton points now thatnthey arebworth practically nothing. Has anyone recently stayed at either one of the Hilton properties in Amsterdam? Any preferences? Going this summer and want to book these award stays immediately.

The Hilton is a bit far of the main area but supposed to be nice hotel. I stayed in the the doubletree which is right by the central train station. Walking distance to all major attractions and awesome views of the city. Great rooftop bar as well!

HGI Times Square is a decent value at 40k and it's one of the best rated hotels in Manhattan on TA. I stayed there, great location and spotlessly clean. Just make sure it's not actually going down in points in this new system. Also it's only worth it to use points mid-week. On weekends the prices drop really low.

Outside the city Hilton doesn't really have anything to write home about. You can also get really good rates on hotels outside the city that it doesn't pay to use points.

Are there any Hilton in Southern Switzerland by the Alps? I just found the one in Davos. Any others in places worth visiting?

What Hotels Have You Booked Speculatively Before Devaluations?
« Reply #377 on: March 01, 2013, 11:14:21 AM »
With upcoming devaluations from HH, MR, PC, and SPG what hotel stays have you booked on the off-chance you might make it somewhere or that you would not have otherwise stayed if not for the devaluations?

I just booked 7 nights at the Hilton BOB for 37.5K/night*7=262.5K.
In 4 weeks it will be 95K/night with 1 free night=570K, or a 217% increase :P
Very slim chance of going, but hey, what do I have to lose by dreaming?

You are not saving your points for WA Jerusalem? Even at a whopping 95K?
