I don’t get it. Anyone with a business platinum can simply book a business class fare with points, get 35% in points credited back, cancel the flight for a credit, and sell on the other thread for 80-85% of face value for an effective rate of 1.25+. Why would anyone sell for 1 or 1.1?

So your point is that once you go down the unethical route of selling points any and every unethical practice should be done? There are many shades and degrees. Surprising that someone would advocate openly to buy things intending to return it and use the points generated. That's pretty close to stealing IMO.

Not even close. Essentially the end result is you are using your points to purchase travel on said airline for someone else and get the 35% points rebated, which is a perfectly legitimate use of Amex points. Its just far easier to do it through the steps outlined above.

Huh? In this case you are actually not going against anyone’s T&C AFAIK (nor are you causing anyone a loss) as opposed to selling points where you are blatantly violating the rules they established.

Other than that they would shut you down if they caught you and being very explicitly against the terms it is perfectly legit.
