Value of BA points tanked recently, partly due to the fact their audit team recently becoming very active.

I have UR I want to sell. I am nervous to sell UR points so was thinking to transfer them to UA and sell them as UA. Does that make sense? Are UR/UA rates comparable? Thinking of selling 100k UR/UA.

No. Doing so would have the UA in an account with your name on it. This is considered higher risk (for airline account audits) and lowers the value of the points.

To get full value from the UR, the points would need to be transferred to an airline account in the passengers name (by having that name added as an Authorized User first on your account). Doing so considerably lowers the risk of audit by the airline, hence the higher rates.

Wouldn't an unrelated and unconnected authorized user on my Chase account be highly risky?

You put them as an AU but have the card mailed to yourself...you can then cancel a few months down the line after the transfer

You need to buy those as UR, do the AU thing and transfer to KE account in your name.

So whatever the UR rate is.

Interesting idea. I am planning to sell to a broker so I don't think that will fly.

When selling Delta is there an issue of clean account, or one can sell multiple times from one account?
Could and should a new FF be opened when opening new cards?

That's how it always works. AUs are shipped to account holder by default. You can throw card in garbage when it comes.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

Not sure exactly where to post, but thought this might be an interesting thought exercise.

Would you consider the following trade fair?
100k SPG + 75k MR in exchange for 200k UR

Some Background:

I'm trying to help a friend of mine fly NYC-TLV in J 2 adults + 1 infant.

Friend has the following saved up
a) 120k UR
b) 100k SPG
c) 130k MR

We've found J availability for his dates on LX and LO.

I could think of 2 possible booking options (am I missing any good ones?):

Option A) Book travel on LX using AC miles. 165k/adult + $100 infant.
Option B) Use UA miles. 160k/adult + 10% infant (~$350).

Problems with option A)
  1. He can only generate 255k AC miles as UR don't transfer.
  2. He's concerned about transfer times from SPG -> AC. Maybe availability will disappear.

Problem with option B)
  1. He can only generate 245k UA miles (120k via UR + 125k via SPG/Marriott transfer at an 18.67k:25k ratio)
  2. Again, he's concerned about transfer times from SPG/Marriott -> UA

I have some UR points to spare and I've offered to make a trade with him to help him get enough points for the ticket.

By utilizing my UR combined with his UR, he’d be able to generate enough UA miles and make an instant transfer, alleviating both problems with option B.

For full disclosure, I'm a נוגע בדבר as I have my eye on his 100k SPG for a trip I'm planning in the future.

If you were advising my friend, would you recommend that he take the deal? I don't want to rip him off.

Primary objective is to get him best value and meet his needs. Secondary objective is to get me some Starpoints
Risk is opportunity

Don't take my word for it. But considering the cash value in the grey market it's pretty fair iinm.

Gray market value of SPG+MR is aprox $150 more than the 200K UR.

Gray market value of SPG+MR is aprox $150 more than the 200K UR.

Which could be considered negligible with variations on buyer/seller rates given the tight timeline that "friend" is trying to close this J tickets
