you thought wrong
I quoted his whole statement which did not make sense not half

So which part exactly didn't make sense to you?

I was saying that assuming a person can redeem Delta points towards paid airfare at a rate of 1cpp (which the link shows is true) then why should they sell it for .9 cpp and lose the difference?  They can just use it when they fly on Delta.

Unless a person is not ever planning to fly with Delta for the rest of their life (Delta miles never expires) then they should sell for .9.

Its prob worth more to book the delta flight with a travel card like the reserve get 3 ppd and sell delta for .9

People sell miles to get the cash so something that is wort 1 cent will not be sold at 1 cent so that is why people sell it for less than 1 cent

Perhaps. But my logic would say that for someone with a large balance, it's more worth it to use pay with miles. Let's say someone has 100k Delta and they're booking a ticket for $1k,  then they can either get the flight for free, or pay $1k out of pocket with their cc and earn 3k miles which isn't going to get them very far... And what are they doing with all those miles they are earning? Selling for .9? So now they have 103k miles to sell for $927 at that rate which they could have used towards their airfare at a value of $1k.

I'm aware that one can use miles for award flights but now I'm comparing strictly selling for .9 and paying for airfare with cc to earn 3x or using at 1 for paid airfare and losing the 3x points.

Just my personal opinion :).

Ok so a broker should pay 1 cpp to redeem at 1 cpp?  ::)

I doubt brokers are redeeming at 1 cpp. They are using them for award flights that they charge a lot more for. They aren't doing pay with miles.

I can't tell you specifically about Delta, but I can give you an example of Amex MR. The max brokers pay for that is 1.3. A friend of mine recently showed me an email quote from a miles broker for ANA J class airfare for $3300 roundtrip (cash price was $6500+). That route requires 120k Amex transferred to ANA plus around $150 taxes. So do the math. This broker is obviously not buying Amex for 1.3 and selling for 1.4. Neither Delta for .9 to get 1. At that rate they wouldn't bother.

That proves my point even more. But no they were using ANA miles on ANA metal (not for Israel flights).

Not sure what you mean. You can book ana metal with vs. especially that they are cheaper in the market because of the recent amex bonus.

I was saying that brokers normally don't buy any points at .9 to sell for 1 - such a return is just not worth their bother.

If you read my post, the broker was charging $3300 for an award using 120k ANA miles (plus taxes and fees).  So if the broker had actually used only 95k VS then it just proves my point even further.  Either one of these was a transfer from Amex which the broker bought max at 1.3.

Hope that clarifies it.
