Change to Orbitz Cancellation Policy?
« on: February 03, 2016, 10:06:57 PM »
In the past when booking a flight ticket on Orbitz.com you were able to cancel for free until 10:00 PM CT the night after you booked, (we've all seen this in countless trip deals from Dan) apparently this has come to an end as you're now only getting 24 Hours free cancellation on select flights.
This looks to be a result of the Expedia Orbitz Acquisition as Orbitz is adopting Expedia's platform on their website.
This is bad news as Orbitz had the better website of the 2 IMHO.  :(

Didn't realize it had changed. Is this in writing somewhere on the website?

They did adopt Expedia's cancellation policy but it's for the better.  Expedia (and now Orbitz) allows free cancellation until the following business day 11:59 PST.

Is this (11:59PM PST) by any chance 24 hours since you booked the ticket? I've done many searches and at best I got 24 Hours free Cancellation. See Photos.
Btw by adopting Expedia's platform many other cool features have disappeared including the flexible date search where you got the calendar of fares.

1) As you can see from the time I posted, it was well over 24 hrs before the time stated in the screenshot.
2) It always showed that during the booking process (on Expedia), but after you book you'll see the full cancellation period in the itinerary. (you can try it for yourself)
3) The flexible date calendar may have disappeared (although IIRC it wasn't very accurate), but so did the Orbitz change fee that they used to charge in addition to the airlines change fee. Expedia never added their own change fees. And now Orbitz doesn't either.

Btw, I don't have stocks in Expedia.... I just do a lot of online searching for airfare, and I can tell you that they each have their own benefits. However the point about the cancellation policy that you mentioned is simply incorrect. And as I've mentioned in the past (in other threads), Expedia has the BEST cancellation policy out there possible. They allow calcellation until Monday 11:59pm PST for all flights booked after 12:01am on Friday. (Orbitz never gave the extra flexibility for weekend bookings, and even Priceline ends a half hour and a few time zones earlier)

I actually only replied from my computer. You bolded the entire sentence (referring to Priceline and Orbitz).
In any case, this conversation is going a little off course. Bottom line, I wanted to clarify the question of the original poster. And he was clearly mistaken that the cancellation on this was reduced to only 24 hours. I just wanted to be helpful and share my personal experience. I've booked dozens of flights on Expedia in the past year alone, in addition to many on Orbitz as well (mostly for others). And yes, I've cancelled dozens of flights as well, and I was confirming from my own (pretty wide) experience with OTA's that the above is not true.

Thanks for your clarification, it is well understood & appreciated.
I just have 1 more question, is the 11:59PM PST Cancellation policy valid on all flights or they have some exceptions? (Like the flights that don't even say 24 Hours free Cancellation before booking)
