Waivecar LA
« on: February 08, 2016, 04:05:28 PM »
So my friend has helped start this new startup and I thought it would be of interest to some readers here.
Basically the idea is that he has a whole bunch of branded Chevy sparks parked throughout LA. Every driver gets two free hours to drive car around (free as the advertisors pay for their "billboard" to be driven around). After that each car is only $6/hr (I think this is just to deter drivers from keeping car for extended periods of time).

More info here

I am in direct contact with this friend so I can get any questions answered.
I think this can be great for the tourist just visiting LA. Its basically a free rental car (Albeit a spark  :D but hey free is free)

Or is it a local thing?

Hey Adam, I'm the other founder of WaiveCar. We're planning on more cities soon, but planning on getting LA to capacity first.

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

Interesting concept.  I guess good for a quick trip somewhere instead of taking uber, if you're close to where its parked

That's great. Curious how long do you think it would take to add more cities ? And what business is it?

So how does it work. Can I use the car multiple times in a day but keep each trip under 2 hours ?

It's free for a 2 hour trip. So technically you can book 2 hours, end it, then rent it again. But the car only has 81 miles of range before needing to be recharged.
