Poll

Are you in favor of banning Muslims from entering the U.S. (at least temporarily)?

Absolutely not. It's unconstitutional and a slippery slope. If it's OK to ban Muslims today, then why can't Jews be banned tomorrow? We must not give in to fear!
15 (39.5%)
Absolutely. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Even if 95% of Muslims seeking to enter the U.S. mean well, we can't risk the 5% that may be compromised. The only "irrational fear" is believing that this will lead to Jews being ban

Banning Muslims from entering the U.S.
« on: February 09, 2016, 11:23:32 PM »
The Liberal media is in a wild fit of rage about the fact that a GOP poll in NH shows that 66% are in favor of banning Muslims from entering the U.S. Republicans are now officially being labeled as racists.

What are your thoughts?

Been waiting weeks for such a thread to pop up!

While I will not express an opinion, I would like to point out that the poll certainly requires more than 2 options.

What do you suggest as additional options?

Meh. Every other day they have another reason to say republicans are bigots.

What do you suggest as additional options?
1. All Muslims must be allowed in. No more screenings may be put in place for Muslims than by any other ethnicity / religion.

2. Until a reliable screening method is developed, all Muslims must be allowed in.

3. No new Muslims may enter until a reliable screening method is developed.

4. No new Muslims may enter.

5. Even those currently living in USA, should leave.

(Or something else)

Also IMHO, the current poll is too detailed - it's hard to vote if the voter doesn't have the exact reasoning expressed in the poll.

Only Muslims from friendly territories should be allowed to immigrate.

The whole problem is that we don't have an effective screening process...

Almost nobody gives the reason for not banning muslims from entry as being unconstitutional. They don't have rights until they're here.

Also, it's not just that there is no method currently for effectively screening them, rather that the vast majority of even isis fighters have no record. They're just "Mohamed from next door" that traveled from another country to fight. Isis is purposely sending those people to western countries as sleeper cells. We don't have anything approaching a complete list of isis operators. It's a tough call.

This part is not accurate. People not present in the United States have at least some rights under the Constitution. The question with immigration is that Congress is generally though of as having plenary authority over immigration. The issue is not entirely clear.

My Muslim college "friend" who follows this blog - asked me to explain this and thought we were more 'accepting' than this - thanks for the awkward convos - maybe some topics are better not posted.

Banning Muslims - no.
Putting an immigration 'filter'  on certain war torn regions, not by religion but by country, where immigration is not blocked, but made dependent on clearance by DoD/fbi etc.  Is a lot closer to an acceptable compromise.
(perhaps visa applications from  certain countries would bear a fee to help recoup the cost of vetting)
