VS award sale
« on: February 11, 2016, 09:07:13 AM »
VS if currently running one of their 30% off award sales. Very useful for NYC - LHR.
I have never understood why these sales don't get much attention here and never even get as much as a mention on DDMS?

Aren't the surcharges high?

You tell me which one is the best RT option in J :)

NY-LHR:

80k VS on VS + $1,250 (approx) * 30% off promo brings it down to 56k. (still not worth it)
88k NH on UA + $300
90k A3 on UA + $300
100k AA on AA + $300
110k AC on UA + $300
115k UA on UA + $300
125k DL on DL + $300

the VS option just isnt worth it

It's available on dates the others aren't, making the deal useful.

Does it work on DL metal?

explain.. are you trying to say that VS has better avail than the above airlines? with the LHR route from NYC patience is rewarding.. used to be more avail but its harder now, however close in it opens up

We aren't trying to decide which of the programs is best. It's a useful deal for when VS is available and the others aren't, or if somebody prefers to fly VS over UA/DL

I disagree, BA is basically available every day in J for 100k BA + $1,151 which is max $2,151 in value. VS 56k figured at 1.3 + $1,250 in taxes is worth $1,978 minimum. not that big of a difference.. their "sales" when figured after everything is worse then other programs & even if you want to fly VS then use 125k DL + $300 which is worth approx $1,862.50 (when DL is figured as 1.25) so even when they have a "sale" its still not worth booking through them.

only way I can see it being worth it is if someone applied for the 90k VS CC & wants to burn it, otherwise they feel like they never will.

BA is not at all available every day.

$200 discount for VS over BA is still a useful thread, why would you disagree?

VS has better availability than DL on VS metal.

Whats your point? That VS is the worse program? OK. What does that have to do with this thread here?

BA is avail almost every day, feel free to search/browse around..

People need to know the full picture. How can you advise someone to book with VS if booking via DL is a better option? Makes no sense im sorry.

If youre being ripped off & theres a sale on the rip off does it make it a good deal? Not to me. Im sorry

Besides everything PG said, may I add:
1) For those interested in flying Y, it is not as outrageously expensive. This may be of little interest here, but still of some interest. And of a lot of interest to many DDMS visitors.
2) When used for a OW ex-US, the taxes are not as outrageous either. 12.25k miles + $134USD for a OW JFK/ORD-LHR in Y in June is a decent redemption.

+1. Also, they routinely add availability to flights, so if it isn't available one day, there's a good shot it will be available sometime in the next month (even if it isn't close in).

agreed, good point. keep in mind 40k AA RT in the fall/winter/early spring months + $198 or so in taxes is a very good deal too. All I am saying is if you know the full picture then you can make an educated decision.. sometimes sales by airlines or really any company doesnt mean its a good deal. thats all

keep in mind 40k AA RT in the fall/winter/early spring months + $198 or so in taxes is a very good deal too.

Hence:

12.25k miles + $134USD for a OW JFK/ORD-LHR in Y in June is a decent redemption.

Plus You could always do OW VS & OW AA.
Besides which that's is becoming much more limited soon..

All I am saying is if you know the full picture then you can make an educated decision

Hence:

I have never understood why these sales don't get much attention here and never even get as much as a mention on DDMS?

How much do economy tickets normally cost? $300 in fees on top of a bunch of points doesn't sound like a great value.

Also a good deal on VS premium economy which you cant book with DL miles.

Chap, this is a good deal if someone wants to fly VS.

According to you 50k AA for JFK-LHR is bad deal, since you can fly EY F for an extra 10k AA.
