Comment on an NJ.com article about Lakewood. Don't exactly want to link it, but here it is. Bolded, mine.
Since I can not find my first post,this is a copy. From what I understand this is just the tip of the iceberg in Lakewood. A friend who has lived in Lakewood for a long time informed me that many get married by the Rabbinical Court but not by the secular court, thereby having large families and collecting benefits provided to single mothers. I have personally seen giftcards purchased in $500.00 increments in WalMart for the purpose of money-laundering. I'm not saying that the Haredi population of Lakewood is composed entirely of those who cheat the government, but the practice is certainly not frowned upon in the community.
Somebody needs to get up to speed about MS...
