Just got back from my friends house a couple of hours ago (in New Jersey), and by chance he told me that his supply company was the one that gives spg points. I asked to see it, and was shocked to see that for the entire 10 months that he was signed up with Energy Plus, he was charged 15.943 cents!! per kwh while my company was charging 9.5 cents per kwh. Based on his usage last month, he overpaid by $105!

The headline says it all, per dollar. He doesnt recall getting any signup, but he can be mistaken.

So at 2 miles per dollar he's paying 2.57 cpm.
Not totally crazy.

I think you are quite overtired at the moment.
He used 1618 kwh last month ( I believe), and it wasn't a summer month!
1618 kwh x .15943= $258
1618 kwh x  .095 =$153
Difference of $105.
He earned 516 spg points for his $258== .50 per spg point, or he overpaid $105  to get 516 points= .2034 per spg point!

That calculation is correct.  The first one is wrong.
He paid a bit over 20 cents a point.  That is crazy.

Btw I also pay 9.5 cents - with a 3rd party enegy provider.

I already got my 7500 starpoints, so I just switched out. I'll probably have to pay their higher rates for another month, until the switch takes effect, but I'm getting a total of around 8000 starpoints, and will overpay by only around $100. I think it's worth it. Maybe not worth the hassle though.

The rep said that I would only get the points after two months of paid service. That's when the points posted. Anyway, the switch-over takes a full month regardless.

i recently got a offer (targeted) to switch to energy plus and get 25k mp points (25k* 1.8 = 400) i told someone about it he called energy plus and they said they could match for him. the standard offer is 7500. try your luck

Not to go OT, but I think 1.8 for mp miles is a bit of an exaggeration.

I did it. They raised my rates after two months by nearly 50%, so I transferred out. Took a while to process, so overall, I came out very slightly ahead.
