I received a post card in the mail regarding a class-action settlement involving EnergyPlus relating to its allegedly deceptive marketing practices. Check your mail for the card. You can complete the required info online using the code on the post card. According to the webpage, I will be receiving a check for $75. As I recall, I was only a customer for 2-3 months. If you were with them longer, your settlement amount might be more.
i received the same card in the mail.
I actually just left them as they ripped me off

if true why are they regarded as a scam all over the Internet including websites I posted ?
Take any supply company and google VIRIDIAN SCAM, ENERGY PLUS SCAM, NORTH AMERICAN POWER SCAM, ect..., you will find  blogs criticizing each supply company that exists. You gotta stick which any of them that you feel you can trust, or you trust the person signing you up, or else just stick with your incumbent. The government is letting all these companies into the business, so thay cant all be real scams, but you need to stay cautious, and if you see prices suddenly go up, just pull put.

I respectfully disagree. I and others i know have legitimately been ripped off by them and the government allowing them to is not a proof of anything.

It's just unfortunate I'm sure they really believe it or really enjoy the checks I don't blame them for that just people getting ripped of is not ok. Ever.

I wasn't defending ambit just pointing out that i have zero knowledge about them as i have never used them.
They never enticed me to switch over to them (no bonus miles etc)

I'm only getting $8  ::)
However I did receive a check for the difference in price at that time.  ;D
With Gateways I did not have so much luck.
They raised my rates but would not refund anything. they played me a tape of me saying yes when the recording said its a variable rate.
They took a 50% jump!
from 8.3 to 12.49!

All I can say, is that with Ambit or any other company for that matter, if you sign up for a VARIABLE rate, you are leaving yourself vulnerable, because even if the company starts off lower than Con Edison or Jcp&l, there is nothing to stop them from going higher some months, leaving many to honestly debate whether they are saving or getting ripped off. You really need to make a judgement call which or any company you want to trust.

On the other hand, if you sign up with a company for a 12 month FIXED rate, you know in advance what you are in for and you will sleep well. For example, in NJ, Ambit offers a 12 month fixed plan and you wont find one person who didn't get exactly what they signed up for.

I think that basically sums it up well with any company, whether Ambit, Veridian, Gateways, Verdi, North American power, ect: "Variable Rate"- you are leaving yourself up to 2nd guessing later, and you might find that you paid higher (or maybe not). "Fixed Rate"- you know what you are getting and if you see a savings over Coned or Jcp&l, go for it.

-1.  Again, with their variable re rate they promise you to be a % lower than Con Ed.  What I and countless others here have experienced, is that's it's a lie, total BS.  They wind up being more expensive than Con Ed.

Now, this was written dozens of times already... You Ambit defenders just seem to never get it (or you're making so much gelt off other people losing their pants, that you're in denial?!)
