Downgrade from SPG to a no-annual fee card?
« on: March 06, 2016, 10:07:27 PM »
Which card can you downgrade to from the spg which will have no annual fee? I tried in December and they told me that there was no such thing. Also, if I close my card will my points expire after certain period of time?

SPG points expires after a year of no activity, meaning no earnings and no hotel stays.

Don't know about downgrading.

Are there any updates on this thread? I need to downgrade. Had spg for 4 years (and paid AF all those years besides 1st) but I don't use it too much anymore. thanks
Also is there a post which explains why it's best to keep the card?

I've tried on numerous occasions to downgrade the Biz SPG card to a no fee version, but couldnt do it. they just dont allow it.

having said that, the last time i tried was couple of months ago, so possible that something has changed since then...

Used to be possible, I have not seen a report of anyone successfully doing it in quite a while.

Since the business card doesn't report, I'm not sure you gain anything with a PC. They will probably be able to open up a new no AF business card with a SUB for you over the phone with no pull.

Simply Cash has a SUB and no fee. BB+ doesn't have a SUB at this time but it doesn't have an annual fee either.

That is entirely irrelevant to the SPG discussion

And you're probably right that the poster is looking for a no fee SPG card... which doesn't exist.

I conflated that post with the OP's which doesn't specifically require the changed card to be an SPG card.

If there were a no fee SPG card, my point would hold whatever merit it holds in the world in which there is no no fee SPG card.
