I noticed it today on my SPG. I also got a 5% off $100.
I assumed that Amex is gearing up for a post-Costco world.

Interesting thought. Trying to get people to join BJs instead of Costco, where amex will still be accepted. They had a Sams Club promo a few months ago also. Looks like they're trying to draw people away from Costco.
