Newsweek exposé on Oholei Torah
« on: March 18, 2016, 01:41:05 AM »
This question is for those who are familiar with the Newsweek article and those that are familiar with Oholei Torah.

Why does Oholei Torah stubbornly refuse to fire the abusive teacher in question?

Any insight would be appreciated.

And THIS question is for people who aren't familiar with the Newsweek article and aren't familiar with Ohalei Torah.

What happened? Link to article?

Abuse is indefensible.
That said, let's acknowledge that article for the hatchet job it is.

True. I'm still curious why they are stubbornly holding on to that teacher...

I spoke with someone @ JCW and I'm not going to names, but there is a teacher still teaching in OT who has no patients with kids and it is not child "sex" abuser but "can" and has a history of abuse.

The article brought to light the issue of physical abuse, in addition to sexual abuse. (AFAIK) All the physical abusers mentioned in the article are still currently employed by OT.

Are you familiar with the case? If not what's your question? Fire a teacher just because he was accused?? Ruin a family??

Unfortunately if a teacher is abusive or being accused of x, y or z, he has to be removed from the classroom immediately while they investigate.  And yes it's unfortunate because there ARE stories of people being falsely accused but it's just the way it has to be IMHO.

Let's see, I'm familiar enough with the case that I have actually seen this teacher viciously assault a child. Is that enough for you, or are you still "worried about his family"?

So instead of לא תעמוד על דם רעך, you want to be a רוצח בידים?

The CH one wasn't written in English so it's hard to be midayek, but the kol koreh signed by 107 leading rabbis in America states abuse and doesn't qualify it

This occurred while I was in this Yeshiva as a child some 25 years ago. Many former students have already spoken up. The only question is why they insist on not firing this guy...
