I'm going through this with my couch which I bought 4 years ago. Had no idea it wasn't *real* leather. Frustrating - bought it from a local frum store :/
:(
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Get the thickest you can
disagree. 8-12 gauge vinyl.
I'm in middle of doing this to the chairs from DDMS. I tried super thick vinyl but it wasn't easy to work with and couldn't work out the creases . Switched to 12 gauge after watching a few videos. With the help of a heat gun (blow dryer works as well) it's coming out great.

I've used the thickest of the rolls from a houseware store. Not sure the gauge

Likely 8-12 gauge. Hardware stores have a larger variety.
Also, marine clear vinyl has mildew and UV protection layer. This could be important if you have lots of sunlight I your dining room

Your kids never spill grape juice or had an accident while seated?
Personally, I'd rather have a grape juice stain on my chair than plastic.

For some, it brings back their childhood memories. That's probably why they like it 😶

We have casement windows with roller shades. Every time we open the window, we either have to pull the shade all the way up (limiting privacy) or listen to the shades bang around. I was thinking about gluing a steel disk to the screen frame and a small magnet to the bottom of the shade.

would this work?

Interesting idea, with strong enough magnets I would think it should work

Just want to understand what you're trying to do here. If the window is open but the shade is down (and secured), won't that prevent airflow? Are your shades perforated? I think magnets could definitely prevent the shade from blowing around when the window is open, and to the same degree you're successful in that you will have equally blocked the opening

i would glue the plate about 6 inches up and maybe another plate 12 inches up

Got it. I think this could partially work, but not perfectly. It will depend on how high the magnets are (12 inches up will work a lot better than 6) as well as on the force of airflow.

A strong magnet (no idea how to measure magnet strength) would probably hold the shade relatively still for most normal breezes, perhaps flopping gently in and out between the magnet point and the top. A strong breeze might pull it off the magnet, but if that's not too often you might be happy enough. In addition to a natural strong breeze, negative pressure in your house could also pull the air in with more force, e.g. cross-breeze if another window is open across and/or you have an exhaust fan.

Are your roller shades cheap or expensive? The cheap ones will definitely start to crack and tear after a while from this. Maybe a second magnet at the center point could give more support

I think he meant halfway up on both sides for added strength, or better yet, a long narrow steel plate on each side of the window frame, and a couple magnets on each side of the shade, then you could adjust however you want.  I don't see why you wouldn't be able to glue a plate in middle of the screen, but I imagine it would be unsightly.

That was what I thought the plan was, I don't think any are enhancing the looks.

How can I roll up the shades if they're magnets glued to it? I can only put magnets on the bar on bottom
