any recommendations for asbestos removal (insulated pipe- approx ten feet long) it started cracking and pieces fell off
located in brooklyn/ looking for good price

Not a handyman question.

The way I see it, you have 3 choices. Removal (pro), wrap it (pro), or cut out the section of pipe completely (if that's even possible)

I don't believe there would be any legal/cost effective way to dispose of the pipe if you cut it out yourself, also health hazard if not handled properly. Wrapping or removal would be only your legit options. If you plan on never doing any additional construction in that area and isn't in the way wrapping is an option but only way to know would be get a quote for both and decide, IMO I'd hire someone to remove but price will help you decide.

(Not a professional, experienced DIYer including researched asbestos removal of my pipe insulation and outdoor siding but ultimately went with hiring a professional due to no way to legally dispose of material in my county (NJ))

Is there an easy way to disable the on/off button on a window A/C, (in a way that I can reenable it, at a later point) so that only the remote works and kids can't turn it off?

Not exactly an easy way but you can put a switch on the outlet it's plugged into.

Mistake didn't understand the question.

If it is a knob then the obvious is to remove the knob. You also may be able to disconnect the terminal from the switch and it may still work through the remote. Otherwise your best bet may be a cover.

I would go with a cover, a simple one is a cutout piece of cardboard.

My kid would rip that right off. I was hoping that there's a piece/wire that I could just take out. And when my kids are older (or if I decide to use that A/C for a guest room), I could put it back.

Try this. Unscrew the front cover of the AC (one screw on each side usually). Are there individual wires connected to the buttons on the control panel? If yes, you can probably disconnect the one that is connected to the Power button. If not, you can try disconnecting the wire to the whole control panel, then check if the remote still works. Whatever you do should be reversible

It's definitely a board there, I'm going to bet that disconnecting it will remove power from the receiver. If I'm correct perhaps you can remove the pads behind the buttons.
Also I'll add that it's probably a bit more involving, taking off the front panel usually won't open that part.

Worst case, if it's more involved than just taking off the front panel and he can't figure out the next thing to remove, just post another pic. Removing the pad behind the button would be a good idea.

Looks like a keypad only. Disconnecting it might work.

Curious how you came to that conclusion (and welcome back!)
