I need a ramp to be able to get a stretcher in and out of a house.
It can be attached to the wood porch in the back (preferred) or the brick steps in front.
1st floor - 5 or 6 steps.
It's possible that we won't need this ramp in a month or 2.  Or we may need it for a long time.

So I need either A and B or just B
A) A guy to hire to take care of it. (BoroPark)

B) How do we do this? what type materials?  how do we judge how long the ramp needs to be?

The item you linked to goes over a curb.
I need something about 5 feet high and 10 feet long.

Also consider the angle of the stairs (not sure how much wiggle room you have to make it less steep) and the weight of the loaded stretcher.

That is way to steep. ADA is at 1/12 which means 12 feet ramp for a one foot rise. Some will do 2/12 with 3/12 the max.

Not sure when I am going to do it. You need at least two people to hold things in place. Mine is 16ft wide. Make sure you get one with EZ-SETŪ torsion spring system. Simple and safe to set the tension.

How hard is it to install a motor on an existing door?

Just saw this thread bumped and read your post.  @ckmk47, did you ever have your ramp built?

This is why you see such long, two directional ramps.

Would you change your own brake pads on a car? Would say about the same. Not sure how else to answer it.

We actually didn't. We solved our problem another way.

But the ADA recommendation of 1' in ramp length for each 1" of stairs height is for self-driven wheelchairs.  To move a stretcher up the height of 6 stairs, we'd be able to have a steeper ramp. 1' ramp per 2" height would be a ramp of only 15 feet or so.

No, because there is a lot more riding on it (pun intended?)

If you would not change your own oil then don't attempt a garage door opener.

I wouldn't change my oil just because I don't have the equipment and don't want to invest in it. Oil changes are not that expensive.
I assume a garage door motor comes with detailed instructions and all the parts you need.

Instructions are usually good.
Is there an opener there and needs to replaced or installing the first one?
If none is there you might need a bracket for the door for reinforcement.
