thechesedfund.com vs gofundme
« on: March 22, 2016, 06:04:51 PM »
The Chesed Fund just kicked off and is meant as a platform for worthy causes without
charging high fees. The only cost will be the credit card fees. gofundme has been the go to platform, but is much more expensive at 5%

Sounds like an idea that is really great and worth spreading. thechesedfund.com

I recently heard of charidy.com because of recent successful campaigns but the whole style is different. Of what I understand, it is a time limited campaign with matching donors. Those things create a sense of urgency. When you know that your dollar is worth a couple times the amount, and that there are only 24 hours to go, people give. But they do charge 2.9 percent of all funds raised, including the matching dollars. This is on top of the standard credit card processing fees.

Does anyone know anything else about charidy.com and about the new chesed fund? Any other good platforms? Any info is appreciated.

They have more details in their advertisement: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/headlines-breaking-stories/398234/finally-a-free-crowd-funding-website-thechesedfund-com.html

I just found this post while searching for it.. my Rabbi mentioned The Chesed Fund yesterday at shul, and that his "great nephews" are benefiting tremendously from the kindness of so many people! Apparently these are the boys he was talking about, and they have raised over $70k.. https://thechesedfund.com/cause/help-modify-a-home-for-handicapped-twins-eli-and-nachi  Amazing!

Looking at the campaigns, it looks like there are a lot of worthy causes coming together on there. As OP said, it seems the only cost is the credit card fees. GoFundMe will charge 5%.. imagine raising $70k on GoFundMe and finding out $3,500 has to go back to them?

I had a friend try to raise money for a trip to Israel awhile back, and he was searching for a website that wouldn't charge out the nose. He ended up using gofundme. Found that most places try to double dip on charging the donors when they pay, and the recipient when they receive! Scams. I wish he knew about this chesed fund. It seems like you're just throwing money away by going on any other website.

Always wondered if the chesed fund is a scam. They always have these crazy stories with random very specific details. (help a father that was in Peru and lost his leg in a motorcycle accident) can anyone shed light?

(And it's obvious the OP and second guy have extreme interest in this site  ::))

The campaigns are getting out of control. Not talking about legitimate orgs. There are straight scams on chesed fund. Fake names and fake addresses.

How do you know they are scams?  I have long suspected that most appeals are at least exaggerated, but calling them scams without proof could really harm the chessed fund and whichever campaigns are legit.

(Not an accusation - a request for more information)

There is definitely a tremendous amount of clickbait
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

For example this one. No such yeshiva exsists. No such address among other discrepancies. This is one of tons of examples.

I find it interesting as that is labeled as a "verified campaign" by the Chesed Fund.

Tons of these are people using the website as a medium to raise money for a family member making a wedding or the like. They are made to be used by the family members sending links to those they know and nothing more. That does not mean they are a scam or hoax. The only way you can create one is with a proper tax ID etc.

no affiliation at all.

I can believe some are scams, but there are some which I know are real which you would probably think are scams.

+1

I know from personal experience that they ask for and call 2 references for verified campaigns.
