In Israel a GOOD rate for a minivan is $120 per day

I always use Tamir Rent a Car - they seem to have the best rates, the rate they quote is all-inclusive including all taxes & insurance, and they deliver the car to you wherever you are (except Eilat).   If you return at the airport, you just park it in the lot, lock the keys in the trunk, and away you go!    I never once had any "surprise" charges, and I've rented from them about 15 times in the past 10 years...

They can be reached at (800) TO-TAMIR.    It used to be answered by a rep in NJ, but now it dials direct to Israel, so be aware of the hour difference  :-)

They are also on the web at www.tamir-rental.com

It's $50 per day for the cheapest automatic car. Avis is $29 w/o MCW

You saved $200 compared to what? What rate did you get for what type of car? Avis is much cheaper than them, so I'm not sure how you could have saved.

This is starting to sound like self promotion

I wish I would have made commission for all the people I recommended to them!   :)

You "must" get insurance!    Even if you are able to find a credit card that actually includes Israel (most don't), if you ch"v get into an accident or even a fender bender - you have to pay all damages up front and only then deal with your insurance to get reimbursed!   And please realize - cars in Israel are much more expensive than here!

So, you have to compare prices that include insurance - and insurance is usually more than the rental itself!

I like Tamir for the convenience...  they wait for you when you arrive (yup - like an executive with your name on a sign :-)  and mostly that you don't have any delays whatsoever upon return.  As I mentioned earlier - just lock the key (and the parking slip) in the trunk & off you go.

If you find cheaper rates - you can email them with the quote and they will lower their price - I just did that a few weeks ago for a 3 week rental in August.

Caveat though - I usually rent their smallest car with a stick shift - if I'm travelling "light" - but you still should be able to get them to match or come close to other rates if you show them another quote...

Their original price quoted was $680, and then after I showed them an Eldan quote they reduced it to $530...

Quote

As per your request we revised our price and propose:

For a car class B (Chevrolet Aveo - manual - or similar)
From Aug.23rd    (16:15 – IB3754)
Until Sep.11th (08:30 – BGA)
(19 days)
$530+$27/airport service
[/color]
Price does not include VAT. If you do not hold an Israeli passport, you will not be charged VAT. Only tourists with B2, B3, or B4 visas are exempt from the 16 % VAT Renters of all commercial vehicles pay VAT by law (both tourists & Israeli passport holders). You pay Toll Road (Road number “ 6” ) when you use it. (+ Increase of $15 in each invoice).

The above price includes compulsory and 3rd party insurance (excluding $600+VAT deductible in case of accident)
