DDMS Redesign Suggestions

Folks, what do you think of that look?

bad for DD, IMO this is to a drastic change after being used to DD,
if you go for this you should do a beta before.

Side note, most of us on ddf are probably not the main readers of ddms.
So while there may be good points being made we may not know what the average reader wants to see.

the smaple shown before (in my opinion) is too different from the current DD (I do use it) but the idea that not the whole text of each post is shown is a good idea...

You always need a mobile site.

1. A mobile site will be easier to use
2. Google penalizes you heavily for not having an optimized mobile site

It looks like I'm in the minority but I don't like having to click "more" to read the whole post. Unless it's really long like the ones that have a jump already now.
I guess I'd rather scroll than click.

All Wordpress features and options mentioned are based on what is available to me and may be a part of the theme and not standard wordpress options. I never used anything else.

Pictures can easily be added  on the Wordpress post interface using the upload/insert above the visual editor

Wordpress can also be set that the home page will show only a summary of each post from which you can then click to see the entire post under settings>reading

Atahualpa allows for easy customization of headers, backgrounds, fonts, sidebars and much more.

My website is not meant to be the same type as yours but you can look at www.lowerwatt.com and see how it looks totally different from the sample they show on the theme page. I did the whole thing myself and it serves my purposes well.

ETA: I think my site renders well for mobile as well.

Right now, according to similarweb, search engine hits are almost nonexistent. 78% of hits are direct links (probably mainly due to notifications with links) and of the 13% that are searches, the main keywords are different variations of dansdeals; not exactly stumbling across dansdeals on a random search.
I have no idea how accurate those figures are. I just know that they're very different than Alexa.

I would say that you may be best making a simple post asking people to give suggestions to improve the site in the comments. That look is a very basic look-even more so than DDMS. The main question is the various setting that were discussed here.

I just don't think it's something worthy of eating pixels and bandwidth most of the time.

I wholly disagree on your stance with respect to including pictures with deal posts, especially if the basis for your objection to including them is that it "eats up pixels and bandwidth."

This is not circa 1858 where we pay per letter of telegram and where bandwidth is limited, particularly in light of the fact that images for this type of thing can be compressed to near relative nothingness.

It's simply indisputable that pictures are a visual aid; Lucky wouldn't sell as many AS miles or convert as many credit cards without flashy pictures of EK F and EY Apartments.

I, for one, am certainly not going to put on my design hat, parse your website, and make discrete suggestions as to column width, font color, and logo tweaks. There are people who do that for a living who are much better than me. There is simply no denying that DDMS needs a face lift.  It's called adapting and investing in your business. 

You haven't updated since when, 2007? That's an eternity. MySpace was worth about $12,000,000,000 (that's billion) in 2007. You haven't updated since then.

Sure, people dislike change, but without change there would be no babies, no promotions, and no sunrise. It's a fact, a necessary fact, of life.
