DDMS Redesign Suggestions

What I personally don't like this way that you can't get to the link only when you open the read more section

Didn't read through the whole thread, but will add some suggestions:

1. Some posts are very long. For example, a post about a Starwood card can have information about the SPG program, how to use those points to get to Israel etc, and all the benefits of owning an Amex card. This is great information, but it should be collapsed by default on the home page. The visitor can click on the article for more information, or they can "expand" it. The problem with having all the information expanded by default is that if a visitor wishes to scroll through recent deals, it becomes a tedious task.

2. To make things even simpler, perhaps line up the deals in a grid like SD. That way a visitor can see at a glance all of the most recent deals.

3. Price mistakes and "hot, sizzling and hurry" deals should always be stickied to the top of the page, and should be noticeable. (perhaps a flashing light like Drudge?) This is ultimately a business decision, but it should always be above everything, even advertisements.

4. Although it doesn't make a difference to me personally, pictures definitely enhance the deal. A picture represents what you are buying, and can definitely lead to more sales and referrals.

5. From a design perspective, keep things black on white. Shades of blue and beige are a bit stale.

I happen to use that right now already. Only pain is that it includes results from the forums too so you really need to know the article before you search it.

I think there are some deals (with items that people might be less familiar with; or not recognize the model name/number) that could use pics too, but that's just me.

It looks like I'm in the minority but I don't like having to click "more" to read the whole post. Unless it's really long like the ones that have a jump already now.
I guess I'd rather scroll than click.

True, but on the other hand it's annoying to scroll and scroll to see older posts. Maybe a Table of Contents would help?

I am seeing that Atahualpa is not a responsive theme and won't automatically resize for mobile, but there seem to be workarounds.

What do people think of a design closer to what DoC has?

It seems to check all the boxes that were mentioned:

Still simple, more "old fashioned" look (just use DD theme colors), not a huge design language departure from what you have now.
Loads lightning fast as well (alexa - 1.5 sec)
Mobile and desktop work both work well.

There is enough text to get the gist of what is going on, and the details are in a "read more" button.

But I think it really excels in the Pictures department:
Instead of adding pictures inline with the articles, which Dan does not seem to be a fan of, there is 1 thumbnail NEXT to each title, so there is no "extra" scrolling to get past pictures. (And it doesn't affect page load times too badly either.)

Side suggestion: Maybe DDMS should have a "read more" ARROW, that expands the content without loading a new page, which is what seems irk people here?
All recent browsers support things like that, no?
