yup, i was a kid in the back seat when my parents were teaching my older sister. took about three red/greel light cycles for her to get out of the middle of the intersection!
ALOL

Please no-one take this the wrong way, or as an insult, but it doesn't necessarily take a manual transmission car for a female driver to stand in the middle of an intersection (or street) for a while.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

+1 to all the above, my dad taught me on the streets of London, but I really conquered it coming up Golda Meir on a Friday...
My friend told me his dad took him to a hill and just made him idle till he got the car to stay in exactly one place.

Talking about the streets of London reminds me that a little after I learned how to drive manual, I went to Eretz Yisroel with a 16 hour layover at LHR. I rented a car and went to visit an old childhood neighbor that was living in Wembley. First time in London, First time driving on the wrong side of the street, and the roads to Wembley were crowded with British Soccer fans (you have to see it to understand what it's about). To make a long story short, I was really lucky to make it to my continuation flight to TLV without wrecking the car making left turns... (there was no Waze back in those days, I really don't know how I made it).

Just watching my father driving in israel like that i know exactly what you are talking about!

He told me the steps are:

1. Brake
2. Cluch
3. Shift
4. Brake
5. Cluch
6. Shift
7. Brake
8. Cluch
9. STALL!

Just a question is there any added "safety" since you have to concentrate?

Anyone have a Manual car in Brooklyn who wants to spend an hour or 2 showing me how to drive it? I'm willing to pay.
Most driving schools won't teach me because I don't have a NYS permit or license.

FWIU Stalling a manual a whole bunch of times is not the best...

I know a few people that have done that. Rent a car and at like 2 in the morning when the roads are empty just go out and experiment
+1 did it in romania. Had an overnight stopover, rented a manual for $20 and killed that transmission

There was no lot. The airport was so small, a rep met me on the street. (I waited till he left)

I hear ya.

I do have to point out that I have minimal experience and I understand the working behind it.
