This has come back partially in some airports, pit comes to mind.

As I was pondering the death of PPBP, thinking if anyone else might step in and save the day, I reminded myself of the days when a CC transaction involved the merchant placing the card in a device, putting a 3 copy form on top, moving a roller across to get the imprint, calling an automated system to get an authorization code (and sometimes actually needing to speak to a human for that) writing it on the form and obtaining a wet signature.

How many on DDF never saw anything of the sort?

Last time I remember seeing that was at a vendor in Hershey park 15+ years ago

I was very young, but I remember the monthly book that major stores had with valid CC info.

That's where the + comes into play.

I actually think the most recent memory of a physical imprint was with Israeli car rental companies (they would take it to cover potential liabilities). I can even recall the time where I came with a card that no longer made an imprint of the number, and they were baffled (might have been as recent as the intro of CSR). But in the US I don't think I've seen it since the 90s.

Ok in my defense I was sick like a dog a couple of weeks ago and had to drive my brother two minutes away. I wanted to minimize the chances of him catching it even though we were both pretty sure he already had it.

So I put on a mask before I went in the car to pick him up and had the windows open.

Pinskers in PIT was still using that within the past 15 years.

You should be happy.
I'm old enough, I don't want to be older. I still have a lot that I want to learn/do. I'm a bit under half of an average person's useable life. At times it gets me quite sad at the progress I've made.
