Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

only the old 5.25 inch ones were really floppy. Once they were 3.5 they were hard.
The 5.25 disks held a whopping 100kb of data and the high density ones went up to 360.

The 3.5 actually held 1.44mb

IIRC 5.25" floppies were 180kb for SS (single sided) and 360kb for DS. 512kb for SSDD (single sided double density) or 1.2MB for DSDD (double sided double density).

Now I also had the privelege of working for a short while with a Typesetting machine (that was before laser printers) that used 8" floppies, I can't recall how much those held, but the machine definitely was very limited in file size.

Reading an NYT Op-Ed in the late 80's about a time in the future when everyone will have all their money on a card and everyone will have a reader to transfer money to each other. To account for all outstanding USD green cash would be required to be exchanged for red cash, then once more for black cash and then transferred to the card and cash would go away. Still trying to find the digital version of it. Probably 1989-90
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

Laser printer comment reminds me of another... dot matrix printers. Also, using The Print Shop for book report covers, birthday cards, banners, etc.

Didn't work on those occasions when you bumped into a live operator.
had a rebbi in highschool who told us that, as kids they would call collect and when asked by the operator for their name, they would respond in Yiddish what they needed, problem was, one time he called and said in Yiddish that he wasn't feeling well, the operator responded in Yiddish, go to the dr!

The way I heard it: The operated asked for his name so he responded that his name is טאטע שיקמיך הויזען, to which the operator corrected him and told him טאטע ביטע שיק מיך הויזען.

There are many such stories going around, probably ask apocryphal, the one I heard the kid said his name was שיק הויזן to which the operator responded "which color?"
