As the Miami community prays and hundreds drive up to orlando to help search for the missing girls, I think this is a time to address self defense.

Once, sexual abuse was ignored or covered over.... now with JCW etc this comes to light. But how much rape and abuse is hidden and covered up by the jewish community? for the sake of appearances a real danger is hidden.

It makes my blood boil, I have 5 sisters who scoffed at me, pleading for them to carry mace etc.. I am mad as well in a jewish community that ignores and covers over a very active danger and concern... it boggles my mind, they have no shame in scaring people with non existent trash but a real life danger ?

*sigh* im frustrated here... I see dragons where others see fluffy bunny's.

Mi k'amcha yisrael, as thousands join in tefillah, but where is the seichel?!?! no child who is old enough to go out without an adult should do so without mace!!!

Shame on any one that tones down this danger!!

It's not the mace that'll help the situation. Its the covering it up that makes it happen. When someone does such a vile act, they have the peace of mind that some ruv will come in saying that it'll ruin his life if everyone finds out about it, ect.

Publicize these events and people will be to scared to commit these crimes.

If someone really managed to take two 16 yo girls, I doubt mace would have made a difference

I think self defense should be taught in schools and Yeshivos.

At this point it's ridiculous that it's not IMHO.

Since when do I have an agenda ? Are you in my head 24/7 knowing what I do or think?

My issue was not about abuse in the jewish community. The issue is that sexual assault, rape, abduction etc are very real fears that are not addressed in the jewish community!

My sister argues that statistically rapes are mostly by and to people that know each other so thats an inside issue.

However! The traditional "dont trust goyim or strangers etc etc" does not always work, was it a rashi that says about the mashal where a doctor tells a guy dont sleep in a cold damp basement which is not effective till the doctor says "or you will get sick and die like so and so lo aleinu"

Look, my whole point is as follows: We need to recognize dangers and address them, dont scare kids and dont lie..

This has nothing to do with jewish community issues, its just about an existing danger. Girls should be taught self defense and should always carry some type of self defense tool

You can make fun of me, I dont care.. actually strictly speaking, are you saying coherently that girls lost in a forest are not in dangers of predators of any kind ?

You know when I started carrying a gun in miami and on Shabbat people would say im crazy etc and I pointed out various security issues, people scoffed as you do now... now those same scoffers carry guns

cause leaving at 6pm with a friend on a shabbos walk at the age of 16 should not be allowed anymore... Oy our kids are going to become so dependent on us.

Are you 15? you sure are acting it... ever heard of common sense ? When I was on turks and caicos I was at some amazing deserted beaches I just wanted to jump in but did not as im not a great swimmer and it was empty
