Sorry for resurrecting this old dead thread. I am convinced prepaid debit cards are the key to meeting spend hurdles.
Wells Fargo prepaid card seems reasonable (from Gary)
I plan to do this for my next (first) IB
Any CC. $5 per load. Max load $2500/day. The card can hold 5k at a time. $3 a month to maintain. Withdraw at wells fargo ATM are 2 free per month, then $1 each thereafter. Withdrawal max: $500 at a time, $1500 any 7 days and $5000 any 30 days. You can also request a check and close the card and that costs $8.
So in a 2 month period you can charge $10k (the IB minimum!) for $42:
$6 in monthly fees (2 months x $3)
$10 for loading month 1 in 2 separate $2500 loads (2 loads x $5)
10 trips to WF ATM in month 1 at $500 each (spaced out no more than 3 per week) = $8 after first 2 are free
$10 for loading month 2
$8 for cancel check
Summary: You pay $42 for 10k UR (.42 cpp) and meet your hurdle without using AP, and a pretty sizeable headache for keeping track of all of it and going to the ATM so many times.
Are there better ones out there that come out cheaper? Any experience accepted!
