Cali and Hawaii advice
« on: April 13, 2016, 12:37:29 PM »
I keep doing these half trips and I have a ton of miles so I want to do it right:

The idea is, fly from miami, link up with 2 of my sisters in LA area, drive to Bay area with of course a stop at tiera sur ;) then from bay area after 3 days or so fly to the big island of hawaii and return to mia?

Does this make sense ? I have like 130k AA or more and 75k avios and 150k ur etc

I would be booking flights for my sisters too

Sounds nice if you find availability on points.

ba availability is easier to search via AA website. once you find something available you can book with avios. I would guess thats a tough time of year for those flights in terms of award availability

You probably mean 22.5k.

In any case, call BA to book for 12.5k.

Thanks, but if I was flying from koa to mia it would be 22.5k avios or 22.5k AA ? which is the better option? If I have AA citi cards person and biz, do I stack 10% off awards and 10% redemption rebate ?

For flights like this, do I want to check out awards from Alaska or hawaii?

In that case AA would be the better option (if we're looking at the amount only. Cancellation policy, value of each point, etc. is another discussion) since BA would charge you per leg for a total of 25K while AA will charge you 22.5k and you'll get 10% off that. And no, you won't get 20% for having both cards.

Flip the trip.
Fly into SFO and meetup there.

PCH is better southbound and BA from LAX to KOA is 12.5K.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

The thing is my sister is in LA, could fly her LAX - SFO and drive down but thats a bid redundant ? trying to work out their dates and another sister joining can only leave NY june 20 and needs to be in SD JUNE 27... might work if we all meet up in SFO june 20, hang out in bay area, head down to LA, she heads to SD for wedding and june 28 KOA?

Really? Don't you realize that you're talking with a few hundred (or more) crazy people who will fly much farther just so they can experience the plane or service?

So hawaii wont work, i think we will all meet up in vegas, drive up to yosemite, tahoe, loop over to sac town (i said that in a jim rome accent) then hit SF / sj etc wineries and all then down PCH to LA

Where is my best bet to rent a car for a week? thinking mid sized suv
