I had with amex. Pending. Then the charge fell off. A day after I received the coin, the charge went through

Whenever you buy something that the transaction closes after a few days this happens such as a car rental, something that only ships a few days later etc.

Reason being, all authorizations fall of after a few days. Usually by then there's a charge. In these instances, the authorization can fall off although they only charge when the rental closes or when the item ships etc. hence you'll sometimes have a few days after the authorization falls off before the charge posts.

I just remembered that you have that by self service gas stations as well sometimes because the authorization isn't together with the final charge.

For the same reason you may see an authorization for $1.00 as well as a authorization (which will become a charge) for the amount of gas you pumped.

I've seen it by other companies that A. Don't ship right away and B. Don't charge until the item ships. None come to mind right now but I'm rather sure.
