Its not the same. In this case the whole exclusivity of the coin isn't there anymore, which technically makes the whole deal, not a deal. Its not like the value dropped due to poor demand and then he asked you to cancel. If that were the case your solution would be spot on.

If you would order an esrog for succos, (or a Christmas tree for the holidays) and the seller had issues and couldn't ship your order until the week after YT, would you think that canceling the order is unethical? What would you think of a seller that refuses to refund you, because you had an agreement and the unforseen circumstances aren't his fault? How noble would you consider it if the buyer has pity on the seller, understands that he already put in the effort to fulfilling the order and had issues come up due to no fault of his own, and agrees to buy the items at a loss?

Agree, Basically when asked to cancel you don't have to, but by being a mentch would be to cancel! And regarding the sellers where it's a gain (and a fluctuating gain where you could make more or less in profits!) and no loss! So yes there is a difference between the 2!
