Curious what the more seasoned collectors on this forum think (since i'm not poking around on other forums) - is this coin going to decline in value because what's driving it now is hype, or should it more or less be stable at the prices people are now buying it?

DH does NOT think we should be allowing our son to keep this coin!!!

It is just me but for the small investment I would let him keep it.

Yeah, I say it's a $70 gift, he says no it's a $1000 gift.... I already said he can keep it, so I'm going to keep my word.  But it's an interesting question.

Nothing, except that this coin is 1 out of 100 now instead of 1 of 30,000.

My husband on the other hand, does not want to sell it. He wants to hold onto it for at least 20 years. It's a small price to pay for a possible future investment.

How is it a small investment and not a $1,000 investment?

I highly doubt this thing keeps up with inflation.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Have people actually paid $1k cash for it? eBay has risk of fraudsters.

There will always be coin collectors out there, in 20 years, how many pcs will still be circulating?

Impossible to know but general sentiment is that after the hype prices will drop or at least stop rising.

Opportunity cost is real value. If you brought a house for 100k 30 years ago, and gifted it to your children. Today its worth half a million, would you also say its a 100k gift?

nice! so how much will those sell for??
Actually just found this DP of a signed COA resale.

ETA this was signed by the director at the Baltimore coin show (where they also sold some of these coins). But if anything those 100 “golden tickets” directly from the mint will be more coveted by collectors.

Better yet they will try to force the coin groups to honor their side of the commitment because they signed up with them.....

That's also PF70 and Baltimore (sold at show?). That's gotta be pretty rare. Doesn't show the value of just a signed certificate.
