70 vs 69
You can check the major dealers on eBay to get an idea.

I'm looking for data on hand signed vs. unsigned, not seeing much on ebay.  Anybody know how much value that adds?

So then whats the risk in getting it graded if it would be same value as ungraded?
... And what if you get 68?

I don't believe these figures but at the Balt conv over 50% were 70's.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

... And what if you get 68?

68 is extremely unlikely.

Some useful information for those planning on grading:
PCGS has a stricter definition of 70 vs NGC
Prior Population reports can be seen here (https://www.pcgs.com/pop/detail/silver-eagles-1986-date/939) (Factor in that minimum grading can be specified, thus skewing the numbers)
PCGS has a higher membership fee than NGC.
NGC has a quicker turnaround (PCGS/NGC both use a 2 step process for turnaround 1. Processing your coin 2. Grading. When you pay for a certain turnaround time, it's only step 2. Step 1 (with PCGS IN PARTICULAR) can add a lot of time to the process. Essentially their turnaround time promise is highly disingenuous.
PR69 sells at a slight discount to Raw typically - also factor in shipping to and from the grading company in addition to fees.
Factor in that the market may move down in the 2-4 weeks it takes to get coin back.

With this coin both grading companies are offering encapsulation of the COA for a fee as well. Worth it IMO.

The same difference as a team in the NFL going 15-1 and going 16-0.
So basically no difference?

If you think there is no difference between perfect and imperfect, sure, no difference.

But an nfl team going 16-0 isn’t necessarily perfect...

Thanks for your detailed info. I called PCGS, they will only do encapsulation/verification of the COA and coin # if the box has been unopened. You can get early release for an extra fee even if you opened the box.

A few basic questions:
1) When people say not to open the "box", which box are they referring to? Is it the USPS box? Or is it the box inside the USPS box? If USPS box, what is the harm in opening?
2) If a rating under 70 will lower the value of the coin, can't you just request that they return the coin without grading if it won't get a 70?

1) Cherry Pickers
2) I think only if you're a dealer/Bulk submissions

1) What are they picking? The boxes will all contain the same coin, no?

I opened box. If I were to send to PCGS for grading, they would not encapsulate the coa?

If mint only released 30k pcs, why such guidelines? Wouldn’t they all be considered early release?

New at this. Thanks!

I thought the whole unopened box was for the buyers looking to grade the coin and this was a way for them to know you didn't grade it yet. But for the actual graders themselves? why do they need closed box

You may have graded and it came back imperfect. Or you noticed it was imperfect.

It's just the COA. They wouldn't feel comfortable verifying its certificate & # being that there's a possibly of it being tampered with being that you opened the USPS box. ....

You may have graded and it came back imperfect. Or you noticed it was imperfect.

But for the purpose of sending it to be graded, there is no harm in opening the box? And some people were saying something about a signed certificate? Is that from the mint?
