If sending in to get graded:

1) Does the coin need to be sealed in original box?  If not, is there any advantage to sending it in sealed?

Doesn't need to be. But Yes there's an advantage. They can encapsulate the coin, but can't authenticate the COA that comes with it. If you were to have one of the signed COA's, They wouldn't be able to authenticate. I wish someone told me this before I opened the box lol. Not sure if it makes a big difference in value though. main thing is the Grade. And they must receive it in their hands by the 16th

Thanks.

Any insight on the other two questions?

if nto selaed they wont encapsulate as they dont know if you switched the coa.
the logic (ridiculous) is that there is some inherent linkage between the COA and the coin it came with. as if it was minted in that order or something like that. obv false but much of labeling/grading is gimmicky.

i dont know if the cutoff is sending or receiving. if its sealed not sire if it makes a difference as theyll see the order date info inside

What's stopping someone from taking a 69 out of the grading and selling it as raw?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

nothing, https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/crack-out-coin-from-pcgs-slab-3993940
but its not so ethical because raw has the implicit potential of being a 70 and the market prices that accordingly.  People would not pay more for a broken out 69 then an encapsulated 69 do its deceptive to sell without mentioning (which would defeat the purpose...)

Incidentally, NGC will crossgrade PCGS and vice versa, so a pcgs 69 can easily become a ngc 70

not even close.
69s are selling about 1500 reliably now (ive listed, i know how quick theyre moving)
Raw are selling @ 1800 briskly.
thats 300 hit x 3 = 900 + 450 grading fees/shipping = 1350 lost.
1 70 doesnt recoup that.
how much are sealed boxes going for? Does that fall in the raw category?

congrats but fyi
stipulation is meaningless.
were you to cancel a sale to someone with zero feedback
youd get a defect on your account
you can always call ebay resolution department to ask them to review the case and remove the bad feedback. It can sometimes help  depending on the situation.

2) I know to get FS designation it needs to be sent within 30 days of release, or Dec 14. Does that mean received by the grader, or sent by that date?
https://www.pcgs.com/firststrike/
Cutoff is Dec 16th.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Cutoff is Dec 16th.

Thanks!

Seems as long as sealed can send in whenever:

"Submit the coins in the original unopened shipping box from the U.S. Mint with a postmark date prior to the specified PCGS cutoff date."

Where is the “postmark date” on the unopened shipping box? Do they just go by the tracking number?

1) Does the coin need to be sealed in original box?  If not, is there any advantage to sending it in sealed?
(1a) Perhaps paranoia, but if sent in sealed, how do we know graders are not messing around with the COAs, i.e. swapping a low COA for a high COA?_

2) I know to get FS designation it needs to be sent within 30 days of release, or Dec 14. Does that mean received by the grader, or sent by that date?

Is it really worth to spend $450 to get it graded? Most recent one sold on eBay was for $1900 in unopened box.

What about without FS designation? Cutoff is dec 16 and am out of town.

In case anyone else was wondering, the “postmark date” is inside the box with your order information.

is it really worth to get coin graded +/- first strike versus keeping box "sealed"?

if so, which company/service should I use - PCGS vs NGC?

any other suggestions/advice to give?
