So we're saying the use case is in taxis. We never use taxis locally, but that makes sense in NYC. And probably explains why I see so many Doonas in NYC and none in CLE.

But I don't see how this helps travel. Don't you have diaper bags and kids bags to shlep through the airport and on day trips? Don't you want a stroller that can push through activities, uneven ground, or sand?

I don’t know why taxis was specifically mentioned. It’s great for everyday use in your own car. It’s a lot easier taking the kid in and out of the car, especially when doing errands.

Cannot compare it to a removable car seat which has to attach to a base, much more frustrating to keep taking out and unfolding the base, lining it up with the car seat, folding and putting it away in the trunk each time.

+100 I swore I would never get it because is has no storage, practically touches the floor, etc etc. Well, I'm eating my words, because I did get it and have no idea how I managed with my snap n go. This so much more convenient, not even a comparison

And this is instead of a regular stroller or do people also spend another ~1k on their Bagaboo?

When my first kid was born doona wasn't around, we had the Bugaboo and snap n go. I found the Bugaboo to be terribly inconvenient, but cost-wise it wasn't a problem.
Bought it for like $650 through dansdeals and resold it after 2 kids for like $500. We also used it as a bassinet in the house, saving on that as well. Bottom line - if an expensive item retains it's value well and has a resale market, it's not as expensive as you think. (See: Tesla deal)

More recently, have been using the doona for 6 months and then moving to the Yoyo babyzen, which is small, lightweight, and folds up easy. Still used the Bugaboo but basically only in the house this time. Sold the Bugaboo and may go for a bassinet next time.

Which car seat/stroller?
Forgot to answer this. Britax B-Safe paired with a B-Agile that sits in the minivan and a B-Ready that sits in the house. All 3 together were easily under $300 because of sales/deals.

Thanks for this.

I can't count how many times I'd gotten a call or made a call from/to my wife: "The base is in the other car!" With a Doona, I've never had that problem ;)

Hard to describe how much it helps until you experience it for yourself, but it is most definitely useful for people with cars and for travel. Plenty in NYC in other places who own cars and never use taxis use Doonas.

Yep, can't opine without trying it. I was skeptical at first, but once you use it (and compare to what you previously had) there's no going back.

(I know the gift DDF should get you if/when it's applicable for you ;) )
+1

We had a Graco Snap ‘n Go car seat and a relatively expensive mamas and papas stroller for our first baby because we were being “anti Doona-trend”, then caved for the second and it was a complete game changer. You can’t really understand how amazing it is for going in and out of cars (and Uber) until you have it for a few days.

We are looking to buy a used Doona (would seem this is perfect for quick resale since this only lasts a few years for regulations and people only use it for a short period). wish there was some gmach, but message me if you have something in the tri-state area.

You just missed one on the forums a few weeks ago. And at a great price, too...

Seems the best way to get a Doona on sale before black friday is this https://corporate.target.com/sustainability-ESG/environment/Waste-and-Circular-Economy/Car-Seat-Trade-In (faq here https://www.target.com/c/car-seat-trade-in-event-faq/-/N-ln7zc)
Just gave in a crappy booster and used the 20% to get a new doona from target online for $450. Yad shniyah does have some come up every few days, but relatively around the same price/350-400. @Dan may be worth a post for those looking for expensive strollers
