There are seriously people who do this!

There are also those that bang by "eitz".

In our shul, (basically a "shteiblach" with all sorts davening there) they announce that one may only bang at haman, but it doesn't always help.

See Maharal אחר הדברים האלה גדל why is it dependent on Ester saying in the name of Mardechai (not a typo)

Ester cold have said to Achashverosh that her amazing intel got her the info, but had she done that the entire nes would have no purpose. THe entire purpose of a nes is for people to recognize the yad hashem. Had she taken the credit then there is a concern she would say כחי ועוצם ידי and the nes would have no purpose. ע"ש
