Availability on EK not so great...
Availability in May from JFK or YYZ to DXB in F is great.  But I can't find anything from DXB to JFK, IAH, LAX, SFO, or YYZ returning in May.  There is J avaialbility to JFK on the return, but UA makes you pay the highest of all classes on EK tickets and there's no one-way awards.

DXB-MLE is a short flight and coach availability is plentiful.

United is really expensive on EK awards and with CO you need saver avail., that option is gone in a few days.
I booked using CO miles, from Dxb-Mle only in coach, if business opens up I can upgrade for free as I paid Business miles. EK almost never opens up Saver rewards in advance from DXB to MLE. I think a stop in DXB is worth it, I am doing it for 2 days. Staying at the grand hyatt with a suite cert.

Overwater villas cost more then the regular villas. I doubt they will give it as a free upgrade to Diamonds, even with suite cert. It will prob be a specialty suite.
SPG also does not upgrade Plats to OW villas in the W resort maldives

What are you doing in DXB?

4 hours is not that long IMHO.  Shorter than CLE-LAX that I've done dozens of times in whY.  I'm spoiled, but I can definitely handle 4 hours in coach just fine.

I was looking at 210K UA to go JFK/YYZ-DXB in EK F and 40K CO for DXB-MLE in EK Y.
But with only 1 leg in F it hardly seems worth spending 250k miles.  Plus I'd have to find my own way to YYZ or JFK.

The better option is of course to use 120K CO to go in EK J from CLE-YYZ-DXB-MLE.  But then you don't get EK F A380 suites with the shower on-board.

Either way I want to book something with CO as I have a year to change dates and/or redeposit for free.

Hmm...

SPG has nothing that competes with Park Hyatt.  I would be shocked if I couldn't pull off an OWB with a suite night or cert.

I'll wager it will be a regular category 6.
The real question is if they'll accept suite certs.

2 days left to book EK tickets with CO miles.

After this getting to MLE will definitely be trickier.

If as you said you don't mind flying in coach on a short flight then just book an F award (e.g. CX, TG) to CMB then take a short flight over. You can even redeem EK miles for that short leg if you so wish.

Hmm...interesting.
I was thinking of booking 2 CO tickets for EK J that I can change for up to a year or cancel for free.

On AA/CX it would be 110K in J or 135K in F for CLE-LGA-YYZ-HKG-SIN-CMB.  Still need to book CMB-MLE separate, looks like it's ~$250 for a ticket.
On CO/EK it would 120K in J for CLE-YYZ-DXB-MLE.

You will not find 2 seats DXB-MLE now already, they are very hard to get. They only open a few days in advance

Business class ek saver dxb-mle?
Just did a random search of 05/05-05/15 for dxb-mle.  All days but one had at least 2 saver J seats.
