i wouldn't lease either. isn't that similar to a rental? if there are no options to choose a car and i land a german model then i won't turn it down though.

No. One you have for 2-3 years and people assume that you own it.
One you have for 2-3 days and nobody cares what rental car you drive in Miami.

A lease IS a purchase not a rental. When you lease you are buying a car with financing with an arrangement that at the end of the term the bank takes the car. THe company makes just as much money as if they sold it to you and maybe more. When you rent the car was already purchased by the rental compny and the manufacturer does not gain by your renting it.

Like I said, it's a proximity thing. In another generation or 2 tops it'll be gone.

The orange trees in Spain didn't participate in the Inquisition. The German companies producing these vehicles did participate in the war effort on the Nazi side, and were viewed as Nazi status symbols of pride.

i wouldn't. there are so many alternatives that there's very little justification when deciding to get a Mercedes, etc. i also find it interesting that this post came up today of all days...

Personally, I don't believe that 80 years later we should be boycotting German products. Is that because I don't have EU roots in the past 2 centuries? Perhaps.

I drive a German car, and I once had an older guy my neighbor that saw me ride in it tell me something about ww2 so since then I bend down when I am in my car. While passing him.

My wife doesn't use a bread maker but plenty of people must have bosch which is German. ...

I just find it weird that people are makpid on cars, but are fine using their Bosch mixers and appliances, and Braun electric razors, etc.

Two different times I was about to purchase German vehicles and my mother asked me firmly not to.

Braun did not gain in the war, as all thier factorys were for the most part destroyed. On the other hand, I quote,
 " Bosch's subsidiary, Dreilinden Maschinenbau GmbH (DLMG) was an arms manufacturer in Kleinmachnow. This subsidiary employed forced laborers, prisoners of war and concentration camp detainees. There are two books published by Angela Martin and Hanna Sjöberg that report about Bosch's use of slave labor."
So it is a question on people who dont buy german cars but do use a bosch mixer.

I think it's because a car says something to the world about who you are.  There's definitely an argument for not supporting companies that were complicit in the war effort but only you would know if you use a Bosch appliance or Braun razor.  When somebody drives down the street in a Mercedes, that person is not only utilizing the functions of the car.  They are advertising for Mercedes as well.
