We try to avoid German labeled products (appliances, fixtures etc.) however in today's global economy, there is no way one can be totally Deutsche Rein (does that sound offensive?), you might buy a Whirlpool washer that might have a German made motor.

A Bosch mixer could be made in the Czech Republic. And a Rowenta iron might be made in Spain.

For those that don't have a problem with using German products here's a recommended watch: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=URSNN5mnI2g
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Somewhat surprised that no one mentioned that R Moshe has a tshuva on it. I never saw it with my own eyes so dont want to quote it, but perhaps someone else here did see it or knows precisely what he says

Braun shavers/toothbrushes are owned by Procter and Gamble, and appliances are owned by Delonghi.

I just find it weird that people are makpid on cars, but are fine using their Bosch mixers and appliances, and Braun electric razors, etc.

Two different times I was about to purchase German vehicles and my mother asked me firmly not to.
When my mother wanted a Braun mixer my father who would never think about buying a german car said why should you make your life harder because of the Germans. If a Braun mixer will make a yidishe mamma's life a little easier then there's no need to punish yourself. I don't think the same can be said about a luxury car.

Additionally, if someone doesn't feel it's an issue for him, having appliances in the privacy of your home is different that a big car in public that might hurt someone who feels deeply about it, especially since some of the car companies were the pride of the Nazis.

The way I see it, it's not an economic boycott, rather a repulsion. If the family members of your local hardware store murdered your parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, neices and nephews in cold blood, I think you would vomit at the thought of going into that store.

How about German products?
My wife doesn't use a bread maker but plenty of people must have bosch which is German. ...

i wouldn't. there are so many alternatives that there's very little justification when deciding to get a Mercedes, etc. i also find it interesting that this post came up today of all days...

this. sorry, but there really is nothing like a Bosch. every house that makes challah by machine uses this appliance. if KitchenAid would make something like that i'm sure there would be a market.
I'm afraid Bosch has become a household name that means "mixer". like Jeep is an SUV, like Xerox is a copier, like Swarovski is a crystal. these are company names but their prize product becomes them. i'm not sure i'm coming across clearly...

I think cars are in a class of their own. Though again my grandparents do try to avoid ANYTHING made in Germany if they can.

I remember when my father got a good deal on a volkswagen and he asked my grandmother (who went through the the war) first before buying it. She said in essence "Bishvili nivra olam" who are the Germans making cars for if not for the Jews.
I understand why some people are makpid, like another poster wrote, there are arguments both ways.

How about Spanish oranges? Etc etc etc.
There are very few host nations that have not tried to destroy or exile us.
I do understand why the Germans yms are worse. - Just pointing out that boycotting our enemies would basically leave us stranded.
Good point, but the Germans are the only ones who did it in these proportions. (The Spanish gave the jews a choice to be expelled or convert, difficult to see that be compared to WW2)

And in general I think we all understand  (at least subconsciously) that cars are status symbol as opposed to an appliance

I think the fact that I've never even heard of that, says something about the Bosch monopoly. Then again I've not heard of a lot of things :)

Magic Mill doesn't come close.

IIRC Bosch mixers are actually made somewhere other than in Germany (though it is a German company).

I can't afford any german car that is worth buying.

But of course I wouldn't.

Now, what if germany owned honda and toyota.  Then it would be harder.

I do own a bosch, but didn't realize that.  I would say I'll buy a kitchenaide next, but I'm not expecting the bosch to break.

It gets even more complicated.  Bosch's successor was a man named Hans Walz who is a Righteous Among the Nations.

In 1980 during the second Iranian Oil crisis my father asked my grandmother, an Auschwitz survivor, for permission to buy a VW diesel car as it was way better on gas mileage. She said she didnt care. So he bought a VW Rabbit.

I can see both arguments but then you should also boycott ford bc Henry Ford was a known anti semite, you should boycott Honda and Toyota because of their connection to the nazis and pearl Harbor
