Counting the Omer while Traveling
« on: May 11, 2016, 07:39:13 AM »
I'm flying EWR-NRT today, 11am.
Since I'm flying over west coast, I'm trying to figure out when is the ideal time to count the Omer?
Is it when I cross the international date line?

Any help would be appreciated!

It's very complicated. Ask your LOR.

According to Chabad Rabbis you will count Thursday night 19 (while everyone else will be counting 20). And if you don't cross back over the dateline, you will do Shavuos a day after everyone else.

Wait - last night was 18.
Why would I count 19 while everyone else is on 20? Or rather, why is everyone else on 20? Lol
Japan is ahead of New York. I'm majorly confused now

No, it goes by sunsets. You'll miss a sunset, so you'll be a day behind until you return and make it up. Same as davening, etc.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
