EL AL moved up the departure of the flight with 6 hours and asking in email to confirm, why do I need to confirm? If I confirm will I lose out later (they will charge me) should I decide that don't want to fly then?

If it�s to/from the US you should be able to cancel for a full refund. Call them ASAP
