I have the same question, but this reads to me that if you book a flight now to fly in August it won't help. In that case, what are the options to cancel if one books elal through Chase UR?

I refunded a ticket using Chase points, they charged my card $278 and the points were instantly returned to the account.
That's a helpful data point. Thank you

Is there discussion somewhere booking Elal using MR points, what are the options and pros and cons?

-use bix plat to buy business tickets and then cancel for vouchers, does that still work?
- Transfer to delta and book on miles

any other options?

Looking for the same is there any LY voucher thread? Getting confused with some of the details & want to make sure I do it right.

If you book LY codeshare on delta.com, its fully refundable until day of departure. I booked several tickets for August there, not only was it much cheaper then on El Al fllight number but it's fully flexible. I booked TLV-SEA for night after Tisha Beav for 1250/2000/2750 for economy/premium/business respectively...compared to 2000/3000/5000 on LY website for same LY/DL flights (and with high cancellation fee)

We're booked on Iberia to TLV for Pesach, but I'm concerned that they may not be flying the MAD-TLV leg by then. I'm thinking of booking MAD-TLV on El Al as insurance. It looks like if I decide to cancel the El Al flight, I can get a voucher that's valid through 2025, so there's a low risk that I'll lose my money. Any thoughts on this?

Does Elal give mobile boarding passes, so If flying without luggage, can I just go straight to security, or do I have to go to the counter and get drilled by the nice Israeli security staff?
TY

So assuming that means no electronic boarding passes....

I got mobile ex LAX last week.

Still need security questioning but can do it at the gate.

The EL AL Protect service is available for flights departing as of May 1, 2024. (source: https://www.elal.com/eng/online-services/elal-protect)

Doesn't the following paragraph mean I can get a voucher for an April flight that I cancel?
Passengers who have not yet started their journey, and where their departure date is from February 1, 2024, until April 30, 2024, may request to cancel their flight ticket and receive a credit voucher as part of the "Book with peace of mind" benefit.
