You can only count points earned through the credit card for up to 20% of the requirement and its capped at 500 points.

True, but that is a separate issue.

Once you reach the 40K/month threshold for an entire year, you get Platinum.  This has been confirmed in the El Al FT forum.  See Hebrew terms below:

קבלת מעמד הפלטינה היוקרתי במועדון הנוסע המתמיד של אל-על (PL)- יוענק ללקוחות אשר יצברו 2,526 נקודות במהלך 12 חודשים רצופים (רכישות בסכום של 40,000 ₪ לחודש בממוצע, ללא ענפים מוחרגים). מעמד הפלטינה יוענק לאחר שהומר סכום הנקודות הנדרש ויהיה בתוקף לשנה מיום קבלתו. במידה ויומר מספר הנקודות הנדרש גם בשנה שלאחר מכן, יחודש מעמד הפלטינה לשנה נוספת

Unfortunately, there is no similar deal for Silver/Gold.

Is there anyway to choose or change seats after purchase? I'm able to pull up seat map, but won't allow me to choose seats.

Does that mean it's more likely TG will stay direct flights to Israel
