It's very nice how much this El Al tzaddik frum yid is exploiting the situation and raking in the profits from hiking the prices of tickets to Israel to highest ever.

הפקעת שערים בשעת מלחמה for greed purposes.

Supply and demand bla bla.

Please convince me otherwise.
I'm sorry, have you tried booking a flight this week to/from TLV? Adding $995 direct NYC flights is not exploiting.

Who said he's a Tzaddik btw? No one needs to convince... don't count yemem's money and just move on...

For the busier season where other airlines are still selling tickets.

If booking through Elal, then it should be simple to freeze and rebook, only for the same passenger. But Elal won't touch a ticket that you booked through a 3rd party (besides voucher if you paid the $29)

Is it possible to change an ElAl ticket with UR travel if purchased with UR points? Are there penalties to change?

So why not book with the other airlines?

This has been discussed extensively up thread a few months ago.

As long as people are lining up to pay the higher than usual fares (myself included) they have no reason to supply lower fares.

From time to time they 'give back' to society (and no one is forcing them to do that) - like in April when they allowed thousands of stranded ppl to head back home on discounted fares. I have able to get a friend back from Asia on $800 one way direct - when the going rate was above $2000. And they are doing it again now with additional flights to / from Europe.

While it's annoying to be high rates, they are able to charge more and it is what it is - no one is forcing us to fly with them. I do it because I know I can count on them, and that's what matters to me.

What does bother me - is that they are branding themselves as the national airline / 'fly the blue flag's which charging crazy high rates. Can't have it both ways IMHO. But again, this was already debated  ;D

We can't convince you of anything, you have your opinion already.

The fact is: Until this war is over and settled, anyone who flies in or out of Israel on a non israeli airline is doing this with full knowledge of the real risk that there may be an escalation and his airline may cancel his flight and leave him stranded. (As a matter of fact, my sister is currently in EY and her flight today was canceled and rebooked for after 9Bav)
ELAL has no need moral or otherwise to save you from your decision to save a few bucks and fly on united or Luftunsa and give you a cheap ticket today. They are the "blue and white" flag carrier for one reason: They will keep flying no matter what. Their more expensive ticket includes something not included in other airlines tickets: a certainty that the flight will happen.

And as a PSA: If you are planning on traveling for sukkos, be aware that there might be an escalation then, and your non ELAL flight may be canceled... Don't book Delta or United or European stopover now and cry then that your flight is canceled and you need to get home, and don't you know people have regular lives... Chacham Einav Berosho.

There happens to be no availability to anywhere this week, but the European flights that do open up seem to be controlled, which is very nice of them.
Getting the last seat on a flight for low 300s is far from הפקעת שערים. Arkia and Israir are charging whatever they can.

Chase should be able to change, but there is a fee, I think $200-$300 plus fare difference. It's not a great option if you want flexibility.
Can anyone else chime in?

What is the optimal route to book and convert to voucher?

Also, couldn't find in terms that it can be used for anyone?

"Following the security situation, we allow our customers an easy cancellation policy.
Customers who purchased a flight ticket until today (Sunday) for flights scheduled to take off until the evening of Saturday August 10, 2024 (inclusive) may cancel the flight ticket without costs and receive a voucher for future redemption for El Al flights. The vouchers can be redeemed until December 31, 2025.
Issuance of the voucher is possible with all types of cards: Lite, Classic and Flex.
Vouchers can be issued independently on the El Al website:
https://www.elal.com/.../Passenger.../Pages/CreditSteps.aspx
We emphasize that it is not possible to receive vouchers for partially used flight tickets, for bonus tickets or for flight tickets purchased as part of groups."

Last I knew, it was only available for passengers flying non-stop. For example, only for those without a US connection

Thanks- saw that, but was not asking if a travel agent or ELAl will be able to take a UR ticket over and modify it- rather asking whether it is possible through the UR travel service, and if so what are the fees?

Elals new time limits for tickets by agents, elal sent this message

Dear Travel Partner

Due to the current situation, new Ticket Time Limits have been
implemented and are effective immediately. The updated time limits are
as follows:

0-1 days before departure: Ticketing must be completed within 1 hour
of reservation.
2-7 days before departure: Ticketing must be completed within 3 hours
of reservation.
8-30 days before departure: Ticketing must be completed within 24
hours of reservation.
Over 31 days before departure: Ticketing must be completed within 3
days of reservation.

When making a new reservation or modifying an existing one, the system
will automatically generate an OSI message indicating the applicable
Ticket Time Limit.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

It's available for US passport holders and the dedicated security line is the furthermost the the right side of the terminal
I used it last week and was from curb to past passport control in under 25 min
