Medical
I had a very concerning situation on my flight to FLL a few weeks ago
I was awakened by lots of noise and it turned out the lady sitting right behind me had passed out.
The crew was running around panicked, looking desperately for a doctor.
I have very little medical knowledge, though I have a basic First Aid training mandated by my work.
So my first thought is: you focus on the distressed person, then you look for a doctor. I waited 30 seconds to see if someone more qualified would jump in.
I got up - at this point the crew came with a 'doctor 's box' and but said it can only be opened by a qualified doctor
A minute later a psychiatrist showed up. She took over the situation. The crew was relieved and I basically heard a crew member say: we're lucky we found one otherwise we would have had to land.
That last is way too odd to be an actual policy, I truly hope. More concerning to me is that the crew had no clue what to do. Isn't it a legal requirement to have the crew trained for these kind of situations, instead of hoping there will be a doctor on board.
I'm hoping this was an isolated incident and that most of the staff would know what to do
