Came across this joke today... Predictable, I admit

Airport

A man is alone in an airport lounge.

A beautiful woman walks in and sits down at the table next to him.

He decides because she's wearing a uniform, she's probably an off-duty flight attendant.

So he decides to have a go at picking her up by identifying the airline she flies for, thereby impressing her greatly.

He leans across to her and says the British Airways motto : 'To Fly. To Serve'?

The woman looks at him blankly.

He sits back and thinks up another line.

He leans forward again and delivers the Air France motto: 'Winning the hearts of the world'?

Again she just stares at him with a slightly puzzled look on her face.

Undeterred, he tries again, this time saying the Malaysian Airlines motto: 'Going beyond expectations'?

The woman looks at him sternly and says:

'What the f#&k do you want ?'

'Aha!' he says, "EL-AL"

of course not, I just mean for now...
Personally I am not such a fan of Elal myself but I hate it when people start bashing Elal....
No מצוה  too bash an Israeli company/airline (for whatever this comment is worth) who does protect Jews and does have respect and for the elderly.

People bash it for a reason.
Personally, it's safe to say I'm likely one of the DDFers which spends the most $ on LY flights.
Still the airlines has many flaws, and crew's poor attitude is one of them, hence the joke

Pilot committee seems to be refusing to agree to the proposed cuts. The Histadrut (largest labor union in Israel) of which the pilots are members is threatening to agree on behalf of the pilots over their objections. Pilots might decide to switch to a different labor union.

Pilots have too much power. They are not afraid of seeing LY fail because they feel they could negotiate the same benefits with the new owners etc.

Not sure how this can be solved if LY will only hire ex-military pilots

Why would you think that new owners will keep to such a policy?

It's a good question.
I always viewed this as an integral part of the company's security policy

What does it have to do with security? It definitely shows skills, but other than avoiding suicidal pilots, really has nothing to do with security.

other than avoiding suicidal pilots
I was thinking about this.
Plus the fact that their background has been checked etc.

What percentage of commercial pilots in the world have turned out to be suicidal?

How many airlines had such problems?

you can't compare Israel to most other countries. Israel is a clear target.
But yes, I'm sure shin beth can find a way to do a proper background check on anyone who would apply

I don't think that policy is in place anymore.

Last week the head of the histadrut told pilots that if they disregard the last agreement which was sign on their behalf, then the union will recommend that LY hires pilots from abroad..

The policy still requires Israeli citizenship but not military background.

Understood.
Then back to square one? I doubt there is an excess supply of Israeli pilots willing to go against the current consensus, but I could be wrong

There probably is a fair amount of Israeli pilots who can be hired. The Elal jobs are extremely lucrative and in short supply
