And why don't they fly a 777?

I find it very hard to believe.
Most times they have received a new 787 they had a two week gap where they were 'upgrading' them

I don't buy this at all. There's no way elal would admit that a portion of the fleet doesn't have the middle avoidance system.

The system only protects from shoulder launched infrared guided missiles, which can only reach a maximum of 20,000 feet, so it really only helps during takeoff and landing. That's besides the fact that a missile is unlikely to break a large planes' fuselage and it can sustain an engine loss without issues.

The Israeli government funded their installation originally, however there was a dispute with Elal over who would pay the large maintenance costs
